MEMBERS

To effectively implement the principles, pillars, and components of the END TB Strategy at the country level, MKUTA empowers former TB patients and current patients to actively participate in the response efforts. This approach aligns with the End TB Strategy’s emphasis on forming strong partnerships with civil society organizations and communities. Through comprehensive training and ongoing technical support, MKUTA has successfully mobilized over 5000 members across 131 districts in Tanzania Mainland and two regions in Zanzibar.

These members are strategically organized into seven implementing zones, enabling them to deliver a wide range of services to their respective communities. The service package provided by these members includes, but is not limited to, the following key areas:

  • Advocacy: Advocating for integrated, patient-centred care, prevention strategies, and policies that cater to marginalized populations within their communities.
  • Ensuring Rights and Needs: Ensuring that the rights and needs of individuals affected by TB are addressed within healthcare facilities, communities, and workplaces.
  • Amplifying Patient Perspectives: Sharing and disseminating the perspectives of TB patients at the sub-national level to inform policy and decision-making processes.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Ensuring timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment for individuals with TB, irrespective of their social status or position within the community.
  • Access to Information: Providing communities with access to accurate and comprehensive knowledge about TB and other related diseases.
  • Screening Efforts: Conducting TB screening initiatives to identify cases early and facilitate prompt treatment.
  • Addressing Barriers: Identifying and addressing barriers that hinder the diagnosis and treatment of TB within affected communities.

These 5000 members play a crucial role in engaging directly with patients and communities affected by TB at the grassroots level. To manage and coordinate these efforts efficiently, MKUTA utilizes the Membership Information and Management System (MIMS), ensuring effective communication, coordination, and monitoring of activities on the ground. Through these collaborative efforts, MKUTA strives to make significant strides towards the ultimate goal of ending TB in Tanzania.
