SD#3: Advocacy

Strategic Directions

Advocacy

One of the key goals of MKUTA is to advocate for tuberculosis (TB) and HIV awareness in Tanzania. We strive to empower communities with knowledge and resources to combat these challenging health problems.

Through our work, we advocate for sustainable streams of funding that will see programs that are impacting communities not get interrupted. We call for innovative interventions and policies that can address critical inequalities, implement community-tailored programs to reach those who are currently left behind and address the societal factors that increase TB vulnerability and reduce people’s ability to access TB services. As an NGO we call for bold actions in addressing the multiple social and structural factors that increase community vulnerability to acquiring TB and HIV.

As MKUTA with support from our partners and members, we shall always strive to see that the country TB program conforms to strategic areas highlighted in the End TB strategy as summarised below:

  • Maximizing the detection of all forms of TB in all individuals of all ages
  • Ensuring that all individuals diagnosed with TB complete treatment and are cured
  • Stop the spread of new infections and progression from infection to active TB disease
  • Research, develop, introduce, and scale up new tools and approaches to combat TB
  • Build country-owned TB systems that accelerate progress and support pandemic preparedness
  • In addition, we are mobilizing resources to hold those responsible for health accountable in ensuring that:

  • The burden of TB is reduced in communities
  • Civil society has an active role in local, regional and national processes on TB prevention and care especially during the pandemic era
  • People affected by TB are active in TB leadership
  • Community-based organization's capacity is strengthened
  • Barriers restricting TB diagnosis are identified and/or addressed
  • Ensure healthcare workers and community volunteers have the required skills and tools to manage TB and HIV patients
