Health Communication Training

Before I received health communication training, I did not know the meaning of TB and how it is transmitted, and as a result, the education I was disseminating was insufficient. After finding presumptive TB patients, I carried their sputum samples in my backpack, because I was not well educated on TB. I thus caught TB, and I also infected my children and relatives. Because we didn’t know about TB, we went to traditional healers, and due to the lack of treatment, I lost my niece and son-in-law to TB. After receiving Health Communication training, I have become a better influencer and educator on TB, and I’ve learned how to carry sputum samples from TB presumptive patients. Till now I’ve been able to discover more than 50 new TB patients who’ve all started treatment, and I continue monitoring and visiting them. I was also able to discover 6 MDR TB patients, all of whom have started treatment. Amongst the 6 MDR patients, only one was stubborn and was referred to Kibong’oto for further treatment.
