Since 2010 to date, MKUTA has received financial and technical support from LHLI Tuberculosis Foundation (LHL International) with Norwegian AID (NORAD) grant to implement comprehensive community TB care in Tanzania with several targeted interventions ranging from prevention, treatment, care and support, community empowerment through structured health communication technique, focused and use of friendly TB booklets. In 2010 to 2017, MKUTA and NORAD entered in a frame agreement that aimed to reduce the TB burden in 64 districts through our well established MKUTA branches. In this grant, MKUTA implemented TB interventions targeting Maasai community in Pwani region, the fishing folks in Mwaloni Mwanza City, the mining community in Mirerani – Manyara region and cross border community in Tunduma (Mbeya) and Nakonde (Zambia Border) in collaboration with the Zambian Copper Belt Health Education Project (CHEP). In addition, this grant has provided opportunity to implement structural intervention for TB patients by investing in skills training, seed money and Village Community Banking (VICOBA). Other components implemented includes social behavioral change communication (SBCC), TB treatment support among PWUD through resource centers established in Dar es salaam, human rights and gender training for community health care volunteers on paralegals and incidence reporting, referral systems for gender and human rights victims, capacity building to law enforcement officers through training at police training academy in Moshi, orientation of police gender desk, active TB case detection, establishment of ex-TB patients self-support groups.
